Gilles Vaton - Naval designer
Gilles Vaton

Being the student of John Illingworth, Charles Nicholson and André Mauric, Gilles Vaton is a multi-talented architect. He, together with his team based in Marseille, has developed a large selection of sailboats, as well sailboats of high comfort, monohulls and multihulls for competitions, but also motor boats and "BGV" boats, very fast motor trimarans.

On competition side, Gilles Vaton has designed some boats for the "Charles Heidseick" series. The n°3 of the series participated in the Whitbread in 1981-1982 and the IV was noted as being a multihull ahead of its time, with its foils and wind mast. He has also designed Adrien for Jean-Luc Van Den Heede, who broke the record of sailing around the world on the reverse route.
