Nautor's Swan
Swan 36

The Swan 36 is the first yacht produced in series by Nautor's Swan. The design is derived from the GAIA class (Plan S&S #1710 product especially by Benello yards) but bringing two significant developments: the separation of the keel and rudder and a composite construction made of fiber glass / polyester. These two points and their consequences have given to Nautor's Swan sailboats the image of extremely fast boats. Indeed the separation of the rudder from the keel allows reducing the wetted surface and the use of composite permits a significant weight gain. The consequences show themselves quickly, in 1968 the third Swan 36, Casse TĂȘte II, won all the seven races of the Cowes Week.

Nautor's Swan has hired Olle Enderlein for the accommodations design, 2 comfortable alternatives were proposed: convertible U-Shaped saloon to the port side and a kitchen alleway or classic with a symmetrical saloon, galley being pushed close to the companionway.

This combination of comfort and performance, helped by cost reduction due to the composite construction, has allowed a real success for this first boat with 90 copies sold.
